flax in bloom play Irish traditional music with a repertoire consisting of songs and lively dance music. The band formed in 2000, and have played venues big and small throughout Denmark. These four musicians have all been playing Irish music for many years. Together, they play music with a deeply rooted understanding and respect for the tradition. Flax in Bloom play with verve, nerve and conviction, and are one of Denmark´s best live bands if it´s Irish music you´re looking for.

Tim Goddard plays flute, whistle and sings. Tim has played in numerous Irish trad. bands in Denmark during the last 20 years, including time as member of Foxhunters, and work with Trad. Lads. One of Tim´s compositions - "The Egg Jig" - can be heard on the Josephine Marsh Band cd "I Can Hear You Smiling". Tim plays from the heart.

Sussie Nielsen Sussie Nielsen sings and plays bodhrán (the Irish frame drum). Sussie sings both in English and Gælic in a fine traditional manner, while her bodhrán playing can always be relied on to lift the music. Recently successfully returned from a year spent at Limerick University in Ireland, as participant of the Master of Arts in Traditional Irish Music Performance. In October 2003, Sussie released her first solo cd After Rain, which received great reviews. Her second cd Day is Dawning was released in April 2005, and her latest, Pigens Morgen, came out in October 2006 - both published by GO Music. Both albums received nominations for Danish Music Awards. Besides playing in Flax, Sussie has her own band - Sussie Nielsen Trio. See Sussies website here www.sussiebnielsen.dk.

Malene Beck on piano. Malene has accompanied traditional music from her early youth. With a solid background in Danish music, Malene has through the uears developed an abiding interest in, and love for, the music og Ireland and Canada. Malene´s strength is the steady swing she lends the music, something which becomes immediately apparent when one hears her accompaniment to the reels, jigs, hornpipes and songs, which are the band´s trademark. Malene also plays together with Sonnich in V. Poulsen´s Kapel, with Sussie Nielsen in her trio, and with the folk-fusion band Instinkt.

Sonnich Lydom on accordeon and mouth organ. Sonnich is a well known face on the Danish folk circuit, was one of the original members of Ash Plant and is also a member of the Danish folk/jazz ensemble ULC, who have, up until now, released three cd´s. In April 2005 came the cd "Fanden er Løs", which features Sonnich together with fiddle-player Jes Kroman and Malene Beck on piano, performing together under the name of V. Poulsen´s Kapel. A great and dedicated musician with years of experience and the ability to captivate his audience through sheer musicianship.

Both Sonnich and Tim can regularly be heard playing at Denmark´s premier session, which takes place on Sunday afternoons, from three o´clock onwards, at the "Bloomsday" bar, Niels Hemmingsensgade, Copenhagen. Sometimes we´re all down there, so drop in if you´re in the vicinity.
